Name: Will

Age: 16

Area you represent: Shropshire

What issues do you think affect young people in your constituency the most?  Transport – this is because where I live and my constituency is very rural so reliable bus services are a must have. However, the bus service we receive in Shropshire is very expensive (£3.60 return) and these prices are ridiculous but even more unfair on those young people who’s families are on a low income. Unemployment is also another major issue because a lot of young people in my constituency are unemployed and not able to use what skills they have in a job – it’s a disgrace that as a society work is denied to young people.

During your time as an elected member, what do you hope to achieve? I hope to make it clear that the young people of Shropshire do have a voice and that we will not be silenced. Our concerns must be heard, discussed and acted upon by our decision makers whom are democratically elected

If you could change one thing about Britain, would it be? I would make Britain a more meritocratic society because I feel that the country has become frightened of rewarding someone for their achievements for fear of offending those who have not achieved. This has resulted in a ‘rewards for all society’ which is grossly unfair on those who truly work hard.

Do you feel that the young person in 2011 is listened to? Young people in 2011 are listened to by their decision makers but very little comes of what they’ve had to say. We have words but no actions.
