Dawn
Name: Dawn
Age: 15
What area do you represent? Warwickshire
What issues do you think affect young people in your constituency the most? In my area there is a huge amount of underage drinking and use of illegal substances. However, I believe that this is due to boredom which is the result of a severe lack of things for young people to do.
During your time as an elected member, what do you hope to achieve? I hope to be able to represent the people of my constituency well and help make positive changes happen. I would also like to restore faith in my area that young people do have a voice and that they are listened to.
If you could change one thing about Britain, would it be? It’s very hard to only name 1 thing! I would probably minimise benefits for those who refuse to work as I believe the current system rewards laziness and supports people financially who are more than capable of getting a job and don’t deserve them. The existing system also uses tax money to pay benefits which takes even more of a percentage of every working family’s income. I believe that this is grossly unfair.
Do you feel that the young person in 2011 is listened to? I think that it is improving every year but there is still a long way to go. Communicating between young people and influential adults could potentially alter our future.
